The 4-H Veterinary Science program is an educational project created by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service (UAEX) and funded by private donations to support 4-Hers interested in the veterinary field.

To complete this course you must:

  • Complete and submit the Registration Form
  • Take and submit the Pre-Test
  • Complete all lesson activities and view required educational videos in Modules 1-17
  • Complete and submit answers to questions in the book to the County Extension Office
  • Complete and submit the Essential Skills checklist to the County Extension Office
  • Complete and score 80% or higher on the Final Exam

Backyard Poultry logo with chickens

Introduction to Backyard Poultry introduces various poultry breeds and their uses, provides participants with the basics of poultry husbandry and care, including housing and nutritional requirements.  Learners will develop an understanding of diseases and biosecurity principles.  The course will provide participants with information regarding poultry reproduction and the basics of egg incubation, hatching eggs, and care of baby chicks, and provided with resources regarding home processing of poultry for consumption, and safe practices for handling eggs.

This course was created for self-paced learning and follows the concepts taught in the 3-hour in-person Ranch Analytics Working with Spreadsheets class. 
Course content includes video lectures and support materials.  
Most videos are 5 to 6 minutes long.  A few are as long as 15 minutes to cover more comprehensive topics.
